Poggenpoel targets further progress after missing out on Bafana Bafana’s 2026 World Cup squad

Durban City midfielder Brooklyn Poggenpoel says he remains focused on improving his career after being left out of the final Bafana Bafana squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Poggenpoel was included in Hugo Broos’ preliminary squad but did not make the final selection.

The midfielder has become an important player for Durban City, making a significant contribution last season before carrying that form into the new campaign.

Although Poggenpoel admits he would have welcomed the chance to represent Bafana Bafana at the World Cup, he believes there is still more to accomplish in his career.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup disappointment has not changed his approach. His immediate priority is to maintain consistent performances for the KZN outfit while continuing the progress he has made.

“Look, at the end of the day, I just have to do my job,” said Poggenpoel.

“It doesn’t matter what shirt I’m wearing. So, I’m happy with the trajectory of my career.

“Obviously, I lost in the World Cup squad, but I feel there’s more. We can do more. And when the collective does well, individuals will achieve more.”
