Egypt considers bringing forward Egypt Capital Cup matches to ease clubs’ schedules

The Egyptian Football Association and the Clubs Association are considering moving the opening-round matches of the Egypt Capital Cup forward by one day after Egypt’s friendly against South Africa was confirmed.

Egypt are due to play South Africa on Sunday, 4 October. The opening round is currently scheduled for 8 and 9 October, but organisers are studying a change to 7 and 8 October to provide clubs with more recovery time before the league resumes.

Taha Ezzat, head of the competitions committee, told FilGoal.com: “We are studying bringing forward the first-round matches of the Egypt Capital Cup to 7 and 8 October instead of 8 and 9 October, to give all clubs more rest before the league resumes.”

He added that the proposal followed the confirmation of Egypt’s fixture against South Africa on 4 October and would make use of the 48 hours available before the international break ends on 6 October.

Egypt are preparing for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, which is scheduled to take place next summer. They will face Angola and South Sudan in the first and second rounds of qualification.

The South Africa match will conclude Egypt’s training camp.

Egypt ended their 2026 World Cup campaign in the last 16 after a 3-2 defeat by Argentina.
