Faik Sakar sidelined for Augsburg’s Leverkusen clash

FC Augsburg will be without Faik Sakar for Saturday’s Bundesliga home match against Bayer Leverkusen after the midfielder suffered an ankle injury in training.

The setback came at an unfortunate time for the youngster, who had been working toward greater involvement with the senior team.

“Faik Sakar twisted his ankle in training yesterday,” Augsburg coach Manuel Baum confirmed during Thursday’s press conference. The club has not yet revealed the precise nature of the injury or indicated how long the 18-year-old is expected to remain unavailable.

Sakar’s development has been closely followed since he signed a professional contract with RB Leipzig on July 1, 2024. That agreement, which ran until June 30, 2026, strengthened his place in the club’s under-19 setup while creating a pathway toward senior football after his progression through the academy.

He made his Leipzig first-team debut on December 7, 2024, coming on in the 93rd minute of a 2-0 Bundesliga victory away to Holstein Kiel. At 16 years, 10 months, and 23 days, he became Leipzig’s fourth-youngest Bundesliga debutant and the competition’s eighth-youngest overall at that time.

Augsburg will now wait for further medical assessments before setting a recovery timeline.
