Monnapule Saleng has missed 87% of opportunities at Mamelodi Sundowns

Monnapule Saleng has missed 87% of the available match opportunities since joining Mamelodi Sundowns, with his lack of involvement at the club now compounded by disciplinary concerns.

The winger has not played for The Brazilians this season after issues relating to professionalism reportedly developed. Those matters have led to him being left out of the match-day squad.

Mamelodi Sundowns have played 10 matches this term, meaning Saleng has missed 930 minutes of potential playing time. His absence has been attributed to a combination of injuries, selection decisions and discipline-related issues.

Head coach Miguel Cardoso’s recent comments also suggested that confidence in the left-footed player has diminished following the decisions he made regarding his conduct.

Saleng signed for Mamelodi Sundowns in January. From then until the end of last season, he made five appearances in the domestic league and featured three times in the CAF Champions League.

He completed 90 minutes on only one occasion across those eight appearances.

Since Saleng arrived, Mamelodi Sundowns have played 39 matches. He has taken part in just eight of them, giving him a match-day involvement rate of 20%.

Of the 3,540 minutes available across those games, Saleng has played only 260. His contribution in terms of minutes therefore stands at 7%.

When the matches he has missed and the minutes he has not played are combined, the shortfall rises to 87%.

That record is likely to weigh heavily when The Brazilians carry out their performance-related evaluations, with Saleng facing a series of poor assessments over his time at the club.
