South Africa coach Pitso Mosimane eyes AmaZulu gaffer Arthur Zwane for Bafana Bafana role

South Africa head coach Pitso Mosimane is reportedly considering AmaZulu boss Arthur Zwane for a role in his Bafana Bafana technical team.

Zwane has emerged as the leading candidate to become Mosimane’s second assistant coach as the newly appointed Bafana boss continues to put together his backroom staff ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The development comes after Morena Ramoreboli was confirmed as Mosimane’s first assistant earlier this week, having left his position as head coach of the Botswana national team to join the South African setup.

With another position in the technical team still to be filled, Zwane’s name has reportedly moved to the top of Mosimane’s list.

The former Kaizer Chiefs coach has earned recognition for his work at AmaZulu, where he has been in charge since becoming the club’s sole head coach following Vusumuzi Vilakazi’s departure.

Zwane’s potential appointment would see him make the switch from club football to the national team setup, bringing with him extensive knowledge of the domestic game and experience working with some of the country’s top players.

According to reports, negotiations over the potential move are at an advanced stage, although no official announcement has yet been made.

If an agreement is reached, Zwane could leave his position at AmaZulu to join Mosimane ahead of Bafana Bafana’s upcoming AFCON qualifying campaign.

The potential move could also mean that Zwane’s next game in charge of AmaZulu against Marumo Gallants serves as a farewell appearance before he links up with the national team.

Mosimane is moving quickly to assemble his technical team as Bafana prepare for their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign. South Africa are scheduled to face Guinea on September 26 before taking on Eritrea four days later.

The possible addition of Zwane would further strengthen Mosimane’s technical setup with a coach who has considerable experience of South African football.

For Zwane, meanwhile, joining the Bafana setup would represent another significant opportunity in his coaching career and a chance to work alongside one of the most decorated coaches in African football.

While Ramoreboli’s appointment has already been confirmed, Zwane’s reported move remains subject to final confirmation. However, his emergence as a leading candidate suggests Mosimane could soon complete another important piece of his Bafana Bafana technical team.
