Gabriel Jesus scores at Camp Nou as Barcelona beat Feyenoord 5-1

Gabriel Jesus marked his second appearance for Barcelona with a goal in a 5-1 Champions League victory over Feyenoord at Camp Nou on Wednesday.

The Brazil forward came on as a second-half substitute and added to Barcelona’s emphatic win, making an immediate impression after joining the Catalan club in the final hours of the summer transfer window from Arsenal.

Jesus said scoring in front of a packed Camp Nou fulfilled a long-held ambition.

“It is the same feeling I had when I scored my first professional goal, but it is different,” he said after the match. “This was my first goal at a Camp Nou full of supporters, something I had always dreamed of, and it happened in my second game at the stadium.”

The goal also moved Jesus level with another Brazilian Barcelona great, Rivaldo, and made him the fifth-highest-scoring Brazilian in Champions League history.

“Rivaldo is an exceptional player and an idol for this club. He is someone I have always admired on the pitch,” Jesus said, according to Mundo Deportivo.

“It is a pleasure to share this list with great names from our history, alongside so many geniuses and stars that only Brazil can produce, each in their own era and period playing in the Champions League.”

The competition has proved a difficult one for Jesus during his career. He has reached the final twice but lost on both occasions.

His most recent defeat came last year, when Arsenal were beaten by Paris Saint-Germain. His first Champions League final appearance was with Manchester City in 2021, when they lost to Chelsea.

Despite those disappointments, Jesus remains hopeful of finally winning the trophy with Barcelona.

“I really enjoy playing in this competition,” he said. “I came very close to winning it last year, and I hope this season will be different.”

Jesus’ arrival at Barcelona came after his move from Arsenal was completed in the closing hours of the previous summer transfer window. Against Feyenoord, he needed only his second match to score at Camp Nou and begin his Barcelona career with a notable European contribution.
