Trezeguet set to miss Al-Kholood game but return after international break, says Riyadh president

Riyadh president Bandar Al-Moqbel says Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet’s hamstring injury has come at a fortunate time, with the international break expected to give the forward enough time to recover.

Riyadh announced that Trezeguet had suffered a tear to his hamstring and would be sidelined for four weeks. The Egypt international is expected to miss the club’s upcoming match against Al-Kholood before returning after the international break.

“Fortunately for us, Trezeguet’s injury came as the international break was approaching,” Al-Moqbel told MBC 2. “He will miss the next match against Al-Kholood and will be back with the team after the break.”

Trezeguet is currently in Egypt continuing his rehabilitation from the injury.

Al-Moqbel said signing the former Al Ahly player had been Riyadh’s main priority and that the two parties had reached an agreement, although the financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.

“Our first objective was to sign Trezeguet, and thankfully we managed to complete the deal,” he said. “Trezeguet is a player of great quality and stature, and he adds significant strength to the team. We reached an agreement that satisfied both sides, but the value of the contract has not been disclosed.”

The Riyadh president also said there were specific matters connected with Trezeguet’s departure from Al Ahly, but stressed that the player was now focused on his new club.

“There are private details concerning the termination of his contract with Al Ahly,” Al-Moqbel said. “The important thing is that he is now playing for Riyadh. The injury came at a difficult time, but he will return soon. The season is still long and we expect a lot from him.”

Trezeguet joined Riyadh at the start of the current season after mutually ending his contract with Al Ahly.

The former Al Ahly player has made six appearances for Riyadh in all competitions since moving to the club this summer, scoring one goal.

Al-Moqbel also discussed the signing of Teddy Okou, saying the forward had been close to joining Zamalek last season but preferred to continue his career in the Saudi league.

“Teddy Okou was close to joining Zamalek last season, but he wanted to play in the Saudi league,” he said. “Thankfully, we reached an agreement and succeeded in signing him. Everything proceeded normally, and he is one of the team’s standout players.”
