Mohamed Ismail steps down as Al-Ittihad president

Mohamed Ismail has stepped down as president of Libyan giants Al-Ittihad after completing his term in office.

Ismail confirmed his departure after overseeing the club during his tenure, bringing an end to his time at the helm of one of Libya’s most prominent football institutions.

In a farewell message, Ismail thanked Al-Ittihad’s supporters, board members, staff, players and technical team for their backing and contribution during his presidency.

He also expressed his best wishes to the incoming board, saying he would continue to support the club despite no longer holding an official position.

“I will continue supporting Al-Ittihad from the stands,” Ismail said, while wishing the new board success in its efforts to lead the club forward.

He stressed that the club’s identity and future were more important than any individual involved in its administration.

“Al-Ittihad is bigger than any individual,” he said.

Ismail’s departure marks a change in leadership at the Libyan club as the new board prepares to take charge.

His message to the supporters reflected a desire for continuity, with Ismail making clear that stepping down from the presidency would not end his association with the club.

He thanked everyone who played a role during his time in office and urged the Al-Ittihad community to remain united behind the club as it enters a new chapter.

The new leadership will now be tasked with building on the work of the previous administration and guiding Al-Ittihad’s sporting and organisational ambitions.

For Ismail, however, his presidency has come to an end with a commitment to remain a supporter of the club from the stands.
