RB Leipzig block late Al-Ittihad approach for Belgian-Ivorian forward Johan Bakayoko

RB Leipzig rejected a late approach from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad for Belgian winger Johan Bakayoko before the transfer window closed.

According to Bild, Al-Ittihad made a concrete move for the 23-year-old after their attempt to sign Anis Hadj Moussa collapsed.

However, Leipzig were quick to shut down the approach and were reportedly unwilling to enter negotiations over the winger.

Al-Ittihad turn to Bakayoko

Bakayoko emerged as a late alternative for the Saudi club after their preferred target Hadj Moussa became unavailable.

Al-Ittihad explored the possibility of taking the Belgian international to Saudi Arabia, but Leipzig immediately rejected the proposal.

The German club’s stance meant there was no opportunity for talks, with the Bundesliga side determined to retain the winger.

Difficult start at Leipzig

Bakayoko joined Leipzig from PSV Eindhoven last summer in a deal worth around €18 million.

His first season in Germany was disrupted by recurring muscle injuries, limiting his ability to establish himself consistently.

Despite those difficulties, he has made 25 competitive appearances for Leipzig and scored three goals.

Leipzig continue to trust Bakayoko

The Leipzig hierarchy remain convinced of the winger’s qualities, particularly his pace, and that belief ultimately led to the club blocking Al-Ittihad’s late attempt.

With the Saudi side’s approach rejected, Bakayoko will continue his career at Leipzig as the club maintains its plans for the Belgian international.
