Joao Pedro returns as Brazil name squad for September internationals

Joao Pedro has been recalled to Brazil’s squad for the September international break after missing the 2026 World Cup.

The Chelsea forward is included in the group selected by Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti for a schedule featuring two matches against Australia and a friendly against India.

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is the most notable omission from the squad. Joao Pedro’s return is the main change highlighted in the latest selection after Brazil’s World Cup campaign ended in the last 16.

Brazil were eliminated by Norway, losing 2-1. The team will begin their September programme against Australia on Friday, 25 September.

The full Brazil squad is:

Goalkeepers: Hugo Souza, Pedro Morisco, Otavio.

Defenders: Arthur Dias, Douglas Santos, Gabriel Magalhaes, Jair, Marquinhos, Mateuzinho, Mauro Junior, Vitor Reis, Wesley.

Midfielders: Andre Santos, Breno Bidon, Bruno Guimaraes, Danilo Santos, Douglas Luiz, Gabriel Pontempo.

Forwards: Endrick, Estevao, Joao Pedro, Raphinha, Ryan, Samuel Lino, Vinicius Junior.

The squad gives Joao Pedro an opportunity to return to the national team after his absence from Brazil’s World Cup campaign. He will be part of an attacking group that also includes Endrick, Estevao, Raphinha, Ryan, Samuel Lino and Vinicius Junior.

Ancelotti’s side are scheduled to face Australia twice during the international window, with India also listed as an opponent in a friendly. Brazil’s first fixture will be against Australia on 25 September.

The decision to leave out Alisson Becker means the Liverpool goalkeeper will not be involved in the September matches, while Hugo Souza, Pedro Morisco and Otavio have been selected in his place among the goalkeeping options.

Brazil’s previous major tournament ended with a 2-1 defeat by Norway in the round of 16. Their September fixtures will therefore mark the next stage for Ancelotti’s team as they return to international action following their World Cup exit.
