Sami Komsan hails Al Mokawloon Al Arab’s point against Al Ahly

Sami Komsan praised Al Mokawloon Al Arab’s performance after they held Al Ahly to a 1-1 draw in the Egyptian Premier League.

The fourth-round fixture, played at Al Mokawloon Al Arab Stadium, saw the two sides share the points after Al Ahly were unable to maintain their winning start to the season. The result was Al Ahly’s first setback in the league campaign, although they remain level on 10 points with Zamalek.

Komsan, Al Mokawloon Al Arab’s manager, said his team had expected a sustained second-half assault from their opponents and had prepared accordingly.

“We knew Al Ahly would come back in the second half and press with all their strength to change the result. We played well and worked on closing down the spaces,” Komsan said during his post-match press conference.

His side’s organisation allowed them to withstand Al Ahly’s pressure and claim a result against one of the leading teams in Egyptian football. Komsan described the point as particularly valuable because of the status and quality of their opponents.

“Thank God, we managed to take a point from Al Ahly, the Club of the Century and the best in Africa,” he added.

Komsan also credited his players for their efforts and expressed hope that the performance would mark the beginning of an improvement for Al Mokawloon Al Arab in the matches ahead.

“I thank the players for what they delivered, and hopefully this match will be the beginning of the level expected from Al Mokawloon Al Arab in the coming period,” he said.

The draw left Al Ahly on 10 points, the same total as Zamalek, while Al Mokawloon Al Arab moved to four points and occupy 13th place in the table.

The result also allowed Pyramids FC to take sole possession of top spot. They lead the league with 12 points after four rounds.

For Al Ahly, the dropped points ended their perfect record in the competition so far. They will now turn their attention to their next fixture, against Abu Qir Semad on Tuesday in the fifth round of the Egyptian Premier League.

Al Mokawloon Al Arab, meanwhile, will take confidence from a disciplined display that earned them a point against the reigning league contenders. Komsan’s comments reflected the importance of maintaining their defensive shape, particularly after Al Ahly increased the pressure following the interval.

Although the draw did not move Al Mokawloon Al Arab beyond 13th place, it gave them a notable result against Al Ahly and raised their total to four points. Al Ahly remain within reach of the leaders on 10 points, but Pyramids FC are now the only team at the summit.
