Cristiano Ronaldo becomes record scorer in Al Nassr’s meetings with Abha

Cristiano Ronaldo made history for Al Nassr by becoming the leading scorer in matches against Abha in the Roshn Saudi League.

Al Nassr hosted Abha at Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh on Wednesday in the sixth round of the competition, with Ronaldo opening the scoring for the home side in the 22nd minute.

The Portugal captain converted a cross from Angelo, who delivered the ball from a corner, directing it into the net with a header. The goal gave the Riyadh-based club an early advantage and added another record to Ronaldo’s growing list since his move to Saudi Arabia.

According to data specialists Opta, the strike was Ronaldo’s fifth goal in meetings between Al Nassr and Abha in the Roshn Saudi League. That took him clear as the fixture’s all-time leading scorer.

Ronaldo moved ahead of former Al Nassr forward Anderson Talisca and former Abha striker Carlos Strandberg, who had each scored four goals in matches between the two clubs.

An Opta statistic also noted that Ronaldo had scored four goals in three league appearances against Abha, putting him level with Talisca and Strandberg as the leading scorers in the fixture at that stage. The Portuguese forward had scored those four goals from eight shots on target.

The latest effort continued Ronaldo’s record-setting impact in the Roshn Saudi League. Since joining Al Nassr in January 2023, following the termination of his contract with former club Manchester United, he has become the all-time leading scorer in a number of individual fixtures in the competition.

Ronaldo’s arrival at Al Nassr has given the Saudi league one of the most recognisable names in world football, while his goals have repeatedly created new statistical milestones. His latest record came in front of the home support at Al-Awwal Park, as Al Nassr faced Abha in the sixth round of the season.

The goal was created by Angelo’s delivery from a corner, with Ronaldo supplying the decisive finish inside the penalty area. It was another example of the forward’s influence in a fixture in which he had already established himself among the leading scorers.

The match also underlined the lasting significance of Ronaldo’s move to Saudi Arabia. Having left Manchester United in January 2023, he has continued to attract attention not only through his goals but also through the records attached to them. His latest milestone means Abha have become the newest club to join a special list of opponents against whom the Al Nassr captain has become the historical top scorer.
