Hadj Moussa penalty appeal sparks debate in Barcelona defeat

Archivo VAR concluded that the decision fell into a grey area that remained open to the referee’s interpretation on the pitch.

“A highly controversial incident, left to the judgement of the referee on the field,” it added.

The analysis therefore supported the decision not to award a penalty or initiate a VAR intervention, arguing that Hadj Moussa had created the contact rather than being clearly brought down by Cubarsi. At the same time, the outlet acknowledged that the incident was not straightforward and could be viewed differently depending on how the referee interpreted the players’ movements.

The Feyenoord appeal came as the Dutch side faced Barcelona in the Champions League at the Spanish club’s home ground. Hadj Moussa’s involvement made him the focus of attention in a match that also produced a disputed refereeing moment.
