Curacao extend Dick Advocaat contract after historic World Cup qualification

Curacao have extended head coach Dick Advocaat’s contract until 31 July 2027 after the Dutchman guided the team to the 2026 World Cup for the first time in the country’s history.

The Curacao Football Federation confirmed the agreement in a statement published on its official account on X. Advocaat’s previous deal has been extended as the federation seeks to maintain continuity following the national team’s landmark qualification.

“Curacao chose continuity and stability as we continue to build the future of football in the country,” the federation said.

Advocaat, who took charge of the side, said: “Together we have achieved something exceptional, and I am looking forward to continuing to build on what we have achieved with the players and staff.”

Curacao’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup represented the biggest achievement in the nation’s football history. The tournament was also the team’s first appearance at a World Cup.

Advocaat is due to announce his Curacao squad on Friday for the September international window, when the team will return to action in the CONCACAF Nations League.

Curacao will face Costa Rica on 25 September before playing Nicaragua three days later on 28 September. Their schedule will conclude with two matches against Trinidad and Tobago, on 2 and 5 October.

The team’s World Cup campaign will see them compete in Group E alongside Germany, Cote d’Ivoire and Ecuador.

Curacao finished bottom of that group with one point. They scored one goal and conceded nine during their historic tournament appearance.

The contract extension ensures Advocaat will remain in charge as Curacao prepare for the next phase of their development, with the federation placing emphasis on stability after the team’s qualification for football’s biggest international competition.
