Bryan Mbeumo says Champions League football is a ‘huge reward’ at Manchester United

Bryan Mbeumo says playing in the Champions League with Manchester United is a “huge reward” as he prepares to make his debut in Europe’s leading club competition.

Manchester United are set to face Sabah at Old Trafford in the opening round of the Champions League, with Mbeumo selected to speak at the pre-match news conference.

“It is a huge reward for me, and I am really looking forward to it,” said Mbeumo.

The forward, who joined Manchester United after establishing himself as an important player at Brentford, said the chance to play Champions League football was among the attractions of moving to the club.

Mbeumo explained that he had been confident he could settle into the squad and form strong relationships with his new team-mates.

“I saw the team and I knew I would be able to build good relationships with the players here at United. I knew we could achieve something good,” he said.

The Cameroon international also spoke about his excitement at seeing the Champions League draw for the first time. He said the range of opponents would make the competition particularly appealing and that each match would bring a different challenge.

“This is the first time I have watched the draw. I am excited about the matches. Every team is different, so it will be good to go there and see what awaits us,” Mbeumo added.

Mbeumo also made it clear that he is comfortable operating in a number of positions. Rather than focusing on a specific role, he said his priority was to contribute whenever he was selected.

“I am used to playing in several positions. When I was at Troyes, I played on the right wing and moved inside. I do not really care which position I play in, as long as I can take part and put in a good performance,” he said.

The 26-year-old is set to experience Champions League football for the first time in his career. His comments underline his enthusiasm for the opportunity and his belief that Manchester United have the potential to make a significant impact in the competition.
