Hamza Abdelkarim and Gabriel Jesus named in Barcelona squad for Feyenoord Champions League opener

Hamza Abdelkarim and Gabriel Jesus have been included in Barcelona’s squad for their UEFA Champions League match against Feyenoord on Wednesday.

Feyenoord will travel to face Barcelona in the opening round of the league phase, with manager Hansi Flick naming a squad that includes the club’s main attacking options.

Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Anthony Gordon are all available for the game, while Eric Garcia will miss out through suspension.

Abdelkarim and Bryan Farinas are also set to make their first appearances in the Champions League for Barcelona if they feature against Feyenoord. They are the only players in Flick’s squad who have not previously played in the competition.

The full Barcelona squad is:

Goalkeepers: Joan Garcia, Wojciech Szczesny, Dominik Livakovic.

Defenders: Joao Cancelo, Alejandro Balde, Pau Cubarsi, Xavi Espart, Andreas Christensen, Gerard Martin, Jules Kounde.

Midfielders: Bryan Farinas, Gavi, Fermin Lopez, Pedri, Rodri, Dani Olmo, Marc Bernal.

Forwards: Hamza Abdelkarim, Gabriel Jesus, Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Karim Adeyemi, Anthony Gordon.

Champions League debut badges

Abdelkarim and Farinas will wear special “first appearance” badges if they make their Champions League debuts against Feyenoord.

UEFA has announced that the badges will be used in the 2026-27 Champions League season. The small emblem will be displayed on the sleeve of a player’s shirt, with the words “first appearance” incorporated into the competition’s starball logo.

The badge is intended to show supporters that a player is taking part in the Champions League for the first time in their career.

Players who enter the match as substitutes and make their debut will also qualify for the badge. However, those who remain on the bench without playing, even if they have been included in the matchday squad for the first time, will have to wait until they make their actual debut.

The “first appearance” badges were first used at the World Cup in the summer of 2026.
