Zamalek face AS Port in Champions League return with qualification at stake

Zamalek will continue their CAF Champions League campaign on Saturday when they host AS Port Djibouti in the second leg of their first preliminary-round tie.

The match will be played on 12 September 2026 at Cairo Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 20:00 local time. It will be broadcast on ON Sport.

Zamalek hold the advantage after claiming a 2-1 victory over AS Port in the first leg. The Egyptian side will now look to complete the job at home and secure their place in the second preliminary round of the competition.

Qualification would take Zamalek one step closer to the group stage, although another challenging tie would await them if they progress. The winner of the Zamalek and AS Port contest will face either Congolese side Eagles or the Rwandan Army in the second preliminary round.

The Cairo club return to continental action after a domestic victory over Abu Qir Fertilizers. Zamalek defeated Abu Qir Fertilizers 1-0 in the fourth round of the Egyptian Premier League, giving them a positive result before the decisive Champions League fixture.

Saturday’s meeting is therefore the second encounter between Zamalek and AS Port in this season’s competition. Zamalek’s narrow win in Djibouti means they need to protect their advantage in the return fixture, while AS Port must overturn the one-goal deficit to remain in contention.

The tie will be settled over the two matches, with the successful side advancing to the next preliminary stage. Zamalek’s 2-1 first-leg result gives them the lead, but the Egyptian club will still need to avoid defeat or secure another positive result at Cairo Stadium to move forward.

AS Port’s objective will be to score in Cairo and reverse the outcome of the opening game. Zamalek, meanwhile, will be seeking a controlled performance in front of their home supporters as they attempt to maintain their challenge in the CAF Champions League.

The match begins at 20:00 on Saturday, 12 September 2026, at Cairo Stadium and will be shown live on ON Sport.
