Zamalek assess Mohamed El Sayed injury after Abu Qir Fertilizers win

Zamalek midfielder Mohamed El Sayed will undergo medical examinations after suffering a bruise to the metatarsal bones in his foot during the league match against Abu Qir Fertilizers.

The player was substituted during the game as a precaution, with the club’s medical staff keen to prevent the injury from becoming more serious.

Mohamed Osama, head of Zamalek’s medical team, said El Sayed would now begin the necessary assessment and treatment process before his availability for upcoming training sessions and matches can be determined.

“Mohamed El Sayed will undergo the necessary medical examinations and a treatment programme to check on his condition and determine how ready he is to take part in the next training sessions and matches,” Osama said.

The fixture between Zamalek and Abu Qir Fertilizers was played at Cairo Stadium in the fourth round of the league. Zamalek preserved another clean sheet, making it the third time this season they have prevented their opponents from scoring in the competition.

Zamalek’s victory moved them to 10 points and put them temporarily at the top of the league table, with the remaining fourth-round matches still to be completed. Abu Qir Fertilizers are 15th with three points.

The result gives Zamalek an early advantage in the standings, although their position remains subject to change once the rest of the round has been played.

Zamalek’s next fixture is away to Ghazl El Mahalla in the fifth round on Wednesday. The match will be their final league game before the competition pauses for the international break.

The league’s sixth round will take place after the international period and includes the first summit meeting of the season between Al Ahly and Zamalek.

El Sayed’s medical checks will therefore be important in establishing whether he can return to training in time to be considered for the away trip to Ghazl El Mahalla, or whether his recovery will extend beyond the fifth-round fixture. The club has not yet announced the results of the examinations or a confirmed timeframe for his return.
