Aston Villa claim first win of season with victory over Club Brugge in Champions League

Aston Villa secured their first victory of the season by beating Club Brugge 3-2 in their opening UEFA Champions League group-stage match.

The English club had gone four matches without a win before facing the Belgian side. Their previous fixtures had produced three matches in the Premier League and a UEFA Super Cup meeting with Paris Saint-Germain, but none had ended in victory.

Aston Villa finally ended that run with a narrow success against Club Brugge, scoring three times to take all three points from their opening Champions League fixture.

John McGinn, Emiliano Buendia and Nicolas Jackson were the scorers for Aston Villa. Club Brugge responded through Hugo Vetlesen and Nicolo Tresoldi, but their two goals were not enough to prevent the home side or their opponents, according to the original match context from claiming the win. In the other match mentioned, Greek club AEK Athens defeated Austrian side LASK 1-0. That result completed another narrow victory in the opening round of Champions League fixtures, although AEK Athens required only one goal to secure the points.

Aston Villa’s 3-2 win was the higher-scoring of the two games and ended their four-match wait for a victory.
