Thapelo Maseko happy after netting debut Copenhagen goal

South African midfielder Thapelo Maseko has expressed his delight after marking his first start for FC Copenhagen with a brace in an emphatic 5-0 victory over OB Odense in the Danish SuperLiga over the weekend.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns star delivered an impressive performance as Copenhagen produced a dominant display, with Maseko playing a key role in the convincing victory.

Having been handed his first start for the Danish giants, the South African wasted little time making an impact, scoring twice to help his side secure all three points in style.

For Maseko, the occasion was made even more special by the warm welcome he has received from his new teammates and the coaching staff since arriving at the club.

Reflecting on his performance after the match, the 22-year-old admitted that he was delighted with his goals but was quick to praise the entire Copenhagen squad for helping him settle into his new environment.

“Unbelievable [first start], unbelievable. I’ll be happy with the goals, but I think the gents were just amazing, amazing group of people, players, staff and technical team,” Maseko said.

“They have made it really easy for me to adjust and adapt in my first game.”

The South African also acknowledged that settling into a new club and adapting to a different football environment can sometimes be challenging, making the support he has received from his teammates and the technical team particularly important.

“You know how it can be at times, I’m grateful for them, they have been amazing to me,” he added.

Maseko’s brace represents an encouraging start to his career at Copenhagen and will give him confidence as he looks to establish himself as an important member of the squad.

The convincing victory over Odense also underlined Copenhagen’s attacking strength, with the five-goal performance providing a major boost to the team.

For Maseko, however, the focus will now be on building on his impressive first start and continuing to contribute to Copenhagen’s campaign.

The former Sundowns player has already shown that he can make an immediate impact, and his ability to score twice on his first start will undoubtedly increase expectations surrounding his performances in the coming weeks.

After making a strong first impression, Maseko will now be hoping to maintain his momentum and become a regular starter as FC Copenhagen pursue their objectives in the Danish SuperLiga.

His latest performance will also attract attention back home in South Africa, where the midfielder continues to be regarded as one of the country’s promising young footballers.

With his first start producing two goals and a comprehensive team victory, Maseko could hardly have asked for a better beginning to his latest chapter in European football.
