Loan move was ‘not my choice’ – Zamalek winger Mohamed Atef

Zamalek winger Mohamed Atef says he was forced into joining Tala’ea El-Gaish on loan and remains determined to earn a return to the Cairo club.

The 22-year-old joined El-Gaish on a two-year loan from Zamalek and said his long-term ambition is to wear the White Castle shirt again.

“I want to prove myself with Tala’ea El-Gaish and give my best,” Atef told ONE TV. “I hope to return to Zamalek because that is my goal.”

Atef also revealed that he did not choose to leave the club, claiming former sporting director John Edward made the decision.

“My two-year loan was not my choice,” he said. “I was forced into it.”

The winger said he faced criticism immediately after joining Zamalek, with some questioning whether he was good enough before he had even played.

Despite that experience, Atef praised the club’s supporters.

“Zamalek fans are the best thing about the club,” he said.

The winger admitted he needed regular playing time and believes his spell at El-Gaish has helped improve his performances.

He also said he is enjoying life at his loan club, where he feels free from the pressure he experienced previously.

“I am very happy at Tala’ea El-Gaish, and I am not facing any pressure,” he said, adding that no-one from Zamalek has contacted him about an early return.

Atef also set his sights on international football, saying he hopes to represent Egypt one day.

“Playing for the Egyptian national team is every player’s dream,” he said. “But I haven’t had any contact from the coaching staff.”
