Lionel Mpasi out for months after achilles rupture

Le Havre goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi has been dealt a devastating blow after sustaining an Achilles tendon rupture during Saturday’s Ligue 1 defeat to Stade Brestois.

The Congolese international made a crucial late save before going down in pain and being stretchered off the pitch, leaving teammates and supporters deeply concerned.

Medical tests conducted on Sunday confirmed the severity of the injury. Although neither the club nor Mpasi’s representatives have released an official statement, L’Equipe reports that the diagnosis is a complete rupture of the Achilles tendon, an injury that typically requires several months of rehabilitation.

In a message of support published on its official website, Le Havre expressed solidarity with their goalkeeper. “Le HAC brings its full support to Lionel Mpasi, who suffered an injury during the HAC-Brest match that will keep him out of action. Stay strong Lionel, we are with you!” the club said.

Mpasi is now expected to be sidelined for approximately six months, ruling him out for a significant portion of the season. Head coach Didier Digard will turn to backup goalkeeper Gauthier Gallon to fill the void in the coming fixtures. The setback represents a major challenge for both player and club as they navigate a demanding campaign without their first-choice keeper.
