AmaZulu FC striker Ngwenya backed for Betway Premiership Golden Boot

Former AmaZulu FC striker Dumisani Ngwenya believes the club’s new forward Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya can challenge for the 2026/27 Betway Premiership Golden Boot after making a remarkable start to the season.

The 23-year-old has scored eight goals in his first six appearances in the elite division, announcing himself as one of the most dangerous finishers in the league.

Ngwenya’s form has made him the standout attacking player in AmaZulu’s early campaign, and Dumisani Ngwenya says the striker is evoking memories of a successful period for the club while also providing encouragement to younger players.

“Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya is reminding us of the good old days. He is inspiring young players, and this is his time. He is doing well,” Dumisani Ngwenya told KickOff.

The former AmaZulu FC striker believes the forward’s determination away from the ball has been an important part of his impact, alongside his ability to convert chances.

“If he continues scoring, it is good for both him and the team. His work rate and commitment are top-notch. He is willing to do extra.

“Yes, he will miss some chances, but at the moment, he has converted 80% of the opportunities he has had.

“The only problem is that you can’t predict the future, but he’s got a good chance to win the Golden Boot this season. It will be a good season for him.

“It will also depend on AmaZulu [and] whether they allow him to leave at the end of the season,” he adds.

The early scoring figures have placed Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya firmly among the leading contenders for the league’s premier individual goalscoring award. His eight goals have come from only six games, giving him a strong platform as the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season develops.

Dumisani Ngwenya was careful to acknowledge that the striker will not convert every opportunity he creates, but said his current return showed how effectively he has taken advantage of his chances.

He also identified AmaZulu’s decisions at the end of the season as a factor that could influence the player’s prospects. If the club allows him to leave, his opportunity to continue competing for the Golden Boot could be affected.

For now, however, the 23-year-old remains in prolific form. His finishing, work rate and commitment have combined to make him a key figure for AmaZulu FC, while his performances have raised expectations that he could sustain his challenge for the Golden Boot over the remainder of the campaign.
