Rael Nakuzola makes Bundesliga debut for Mainz 05

Rael Nakuzola celebrated his Bundesliga debut as Mainz 05 cruised to a 5-0 away win over Hamburg.

Head coach Urs Fischer brought the left-back on in the 89th minute, giving the young defender his first taste of action in Germany’s top flight.

Nakuzola had previously been named in a senior matchday squad for the DFB Cup first round against VfB 1921 Krieschow, but he did not feature. His patience paid off at the Volksparkstadion, where he stepped onto the pitch with Mainz already leading 4-0. He remained on the field when teammate Ransford Konigsdorffer sealed the scoring in stoppage time to complete the 5-0 result.

The appearance marks a personal milestone for Nakuzola, who has been working his way into Fischer’s plans. While his minutes were limited, the experience of playing in a commanding victory provides a positive foundation as he continues to develop.
