Inter Milan tie down Francesco Pio Esposito with long-term deal ahead of Real Madrid clash

Inter Milan have extended the contract of young striker Francesco Pio Esposito until 30 June 2032, underlining their belief in the forward just days before their Champions League meeting with Real Madrid.

The 21-year-old’s previous agreement was due to expire at the end of the current season. Inter confirmed in a brief official statement that they had reached an agreement to extend his contract, adding five more seasons to his deal.

Esposito has quickly developed into an important part of both Simone Inzaghi’s former Inter squad and the Italy set-up. Italian media reports say his salary will rise substantially under the new agreement, reaching about €2.7m per season.

The decision also comes after the striker attracted interest and offers from English clubs during the summer transfer window.

Esposito joined Inter’s academy and continued his development with two loan spells at Spezia in Italy’s second division between 2023 and 2025. He made his first-team debut for the Nerazzurri in June 2025, appearing against Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds in the Club World Cup, shortly before completing his 20th year.

Since that first appearance, he has played 53 matches in all competitions and scored 12 goals. He has also started Inter’s first three Serie A matches of this season, opening his account with a goal against Monza.

The forward has earned the confidence of manager Christian Chivu, who is currently relying on him more heavily than Marcus Thuram. The France striker has not fully recovered from a calf injury sustained at the World Cup.

Thuram’s fitness situation has provided Esposito with an opportunity to take on greater responsibility at the start of the campaign, while his performances have strengthened his position as one of the leading emerging talents in Italian football.

At international level, Esposito has been part of the Italy squad since September 2025. He has scored five goals in nine appearances for his country, further enhancing his reputation as one of Italy’s most promising young players.

The contract extension gives Inter long-term security over a player they regard as an important part of their future. It also arrives at a significant moment for the club, with Real Madrid providing a major early test in their Champions League campaign.

Inter’s agreement with Esposito was announced shortly before that high-profile European fixture, allowing the club to settle the striker’s future before turning its full attention to the challenge posed by Real Madrid.
