Bayern Munich’s Dreesen suggests Elversberg coach could return for Bundesliga meeting

Jan-Christian Dreesen has indicated that Vincent Wagner could be allowed to take charge of SV Elversberg against Bayern Munich, despite the coach being suspended after receiving a red card.

Wagner was sent off during Elversberg’s match against Borussia Monchengladbach. The dismissal means he is due to miss his side’s next Bundesliga fixture, which is away to Bayern Munich.

However, Bayern chief executive Dreesen suggested in an interview with SPORT1 that the suspension could potentially be lifted, allowing Wagner to sit on the visitors’ bench at the Allianz Arena.

“It would certainly be possible not to impose any sanctions for the next match, if everyone sees it that way,” Dreesen said.

The comments were met with applause from those attending the media event.

Dreesen’s remarks came as Bayern continue their preparations for the opening game of their Champions League campaign. The German champions will host Norwegian club Bodø/Glimt at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Thursday.

Dreesen praised both Musiala’s work in training and head coach Vincent Kompany’s decision to include him in the squad and introduce him during the match.

“Jamal trained extremely well. I thought it was great that Vincent included him in the squad and also gave him a few minutes. He brought him on even though the match had not been decided, which shows how much confidence he has in him. Everyone at the club is doing everything they can to support Jamal,” Dreesen said.

Musiala’s appearance against Schalke marked an important step in his return, with Bayern continuing to manage his involvement after his recent difficulties. Dreesen said the club was committed to providing the support needed as the midfielder builds up his fitness and match rhythm.

For Elversberg, the immediate issue is whether Wagner will be available for the trip to Bayern. His red card against Borussia Monchengladbach currently prevents him from being in the technical area, but Dreesen’s comments have raised the possibility of a different outcome.

The potential decision would mean Wagner could lead Elversberg from the touchline in one of the Bundesliga’s most demanding fixtures. Bayern, meanwhile, are preparing for a busy period that begins with their Champions League opener against Bodø/Glimt.
