Mamelodi Sundowns eye top spot against Golden Arrows in Betway Premiership

Mamelodi Sundowns can move to the top of the Betway Premiership when they face Golden Arrows at King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The fixture is the third meeting between the sides this season, with Sundowns arriving in strong form after progressing to the MTN8 final and beating Milford FC in midweek.

Sundowns eliminated Arrows in the MTN8 semi-finals after the tie ended 3-3 on aggregate. The second leg was played last weekend, with Sundowns claiming a 3-2 aggregate away to Arrows before advancing on the away goals rule.

Miguel Cardoso’s charges were back in Betway Premiership action on Wednesday, when they defeated Milford FC 2-0 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

A victory in Durban would take Sundowns above current leaders Orlando Pirates, who are unavailable for league action this weekend because of their CAF Champions League commitments.

Golden Arrows go into the match in eighth position and will be looking to upset the reigning force in South African football in front of their home supporters.

Both teams have now confirmed their starting line-ups for the afternoon encounter.

Golden Arrows will begin with Mbanjwa in goal, behind a defence featuring Shezi, Agnikoi and Manstshiyane. Maluleke and Dlamini are included in the side, while Zwane and Maxwele will also start.

Van Neel, Gasa and Dion complete the Arrows line-up.

Golden Arrows substitutes: Msibi, Madonsela, Mafuleka, Radzhadzhi, P. Khumalo, van Rooi, T. Khuamlo and Sithole.

Sundowns name Williams as their goalkeeper, with Morena, Kekana, Ndamane and Basadien in the defensive line.

Mokoena and Allende are selected in midfield, alongside Ndlovu and Matthews. Leon and Mailula will lead the attacking threat for Cardoso’s team.
