Egypt captain Mohamed Salah scored and provided an assist as Trabzonspor returned to winning ways with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Gençlerbirliği in the Turkish Super Lig on Sunday.

The Egyptian star converted a first-half penalty before setting up Trabzonspor’s fourth goal as the home side produced a dominant display in the fourth round of the league campaign.

Nigerian forward Paul Onuachu also starred, scoring twice as Trabzonspor ended a run of two consecutive defeats in all competitions.

The result lifted Trabzonspor to seven points and fourth place in the standings.

Onuachu and Salah put Trabzonspor in control

Trabzonspor made a fast start in front of their home supporters and opened the scoring after just five minutes through Onuachu.

The Nigerian striker gave the hosts an early advantage before Salah doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 14th minute.

Onuachu struck again eight minutes later to complete his brace and send Trabzonspor into the half-time break with a commanding 3-0 lead.

Salah turns provider in second half

Trabzonspor continued their dominance after the restart and added a fourth goal in the 59th minute.

Salah was again at the heart of the move, creating the opportunity for team-mate Ernest Mutchi to find the net.

Francolino completed the scoring in the 78th minute as Trabzonspor sealed an impressive five-goal victory.

Crucial response after difficult week

The victory provided a much-needed response from Trabzonspor following a difficult run of results.

The Turkish side had suffered a 4-0 defeat against Ferencváros in the second leg of their Europa League qualifying tie before losing 2-1 to Amed Sportif in the league.

But Sunday’s performance showed a completely different side, with Salah and fellow African stars playing central roles in an emphatic victory.

African stars lead the revival

For Salah, the performance was another important contribution for his new club, with a goal and assist underlining his influence in Trabzonspor’s attack.

Onuachu’s brace also highlighted the impact of African players on a memorable evening for the Turkish side.

Trabzonspor now have seven points after four league matches, level on points with Gençlerbirliği, who sit sixth in the table.

The comprehensive victory will give Trabzonspor renewed confidence as they look to build momentum and maintain their push towards the top end of the Turkish Super Lig.
