Bayern Munich to reassess Michael Olise’s future next summer

Bayern Munich chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen says Michael Olise is “extremely important” to the club, but admits it is too early to guarantee the France international will remain at the Bundesliga champions beyond next summer.

Olise was the subject of speculation during the recent summer transfer window, with reports claiming Real Madrid were interested in signing the 23-year-old. However, Dreesen dismissed suggestions that Bayern had been considering his departure.

Speaking to German outlet SPORT1, Dreesen said: “That simply wasn’t true. That’s why I said so publicly. It simply wasn’t true. We didn’t have any offer on the table. And we always said we weren’t interested.”

He added: “That is completely our position. Olise is extremely important to this team. He is magical on the pitch.”

Asked whether Bayern could guarantee that the winger would still be at the club after next summer, Dreesen was more cautious.

“Making promises in this area is complicated,” he said. “Whether we will be able to keep him permanently is something we will discuss again in the summer.”

Olise joined Bayern from Crystal Palace in 2024 and has quickly established himself as an important member of the team. His performances have fuelled interest from leading European clubs, but Dreesen’s comments make clear that Bayern had no intention of entertaining a bid during the latest transfer window.

Reports earlier in the summer claimed Real Madrid wanted to bring the French forward to Spain. Bayern, however, maintained that the player was not available and that no formal offer had been received.

Dreesen also provided an update on negotiations with England captain Harry Kane, whose future is another important issue for the German club.

“Our relationship is calm,” he said. “It is clear that both sides want it” – referring to a contract extension.

When asked whether the length of a potential new agreement was proving to be a sticking point, Dreesen replied: “That is one of the small details that I will not discuss here.”

Kane moved to Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023 and remains central to the club’s plans. Dreesen’s comments indicate that discussions over a renewal are continuing in a positive atmosphere, although the club has not revealed the proposed terms or duration of any new contract.

Bayern are now preparing to begin their campaign in the new edition of the UEFA Champions League. They will host Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt on Thursday in their opening match of the competition.

The German club will hope to combine a strong European start with progress on the futures of two of their most prominent attacking players, although Dreesen’s remarks suggest that neither the situation involving Olise nor the details of Kane’s contract will be resolved immediately.
