Morocco forward Ayoub El Kaabi undergoes successful surgery after serious leg fracture

Moroccan international Ayoub El Kaabi has undergone successful surgery following the serious injury he suffered during Olympiacos’ 1-1 draw against Volos in the third round of the Greek Super League.

The 33-year-old striker was injured on Saturday after colliding with Volos goalkeeper Marios Siambanis shortly before the end of the first half.

El Kaabi suffered fractures to the tibia and fibula in his left leg, ruling him out for a lengthy period. The Moroccan forward underwent surgery on early Sunday at the Paleo Faliro Clinic of the Athens Medical Center under the supervision of Olympiacos’ head of medical staff, Christos Theos.

Initial estimates suggest that El Kaabi could be sidelined for between six and seven months, although the exact length of his absence will depend largely on how his body responds to treatment and the rehabilitation process.

The injury represents a major setback for both El Kaabi and Olympiacos, considering the striker’s importance to the Greek club’s attacking plans.

El Kaabi will now begin his rehabilitation immediately following the surgery. His recovery will be managed through a gradual programme designed to ensure that he makes a safe and complete return to football.

There will be no rush to set a definitive date for his return to competitive action, with the medical team expected to focus primarily on his recovery and avoid putting unnecessary pressure on the striker.
