‘Thinking of you’: Volos keeper sends support to injured Ayoub El Kaabi

Volos goalkeeper Marios Siabanis has apologised to Morocco striker Ayoub El Kaabi after a collision during Saturday’s Greek Super League match left the forward with a fracture.

The incident happened in the 43rd minute of the meeting between Volos and El Kaabi’s side, during one of the striker’s attacking attempts. El Kaabi collided with Siabanis and immediately fell to the ground in obvious pain.

The Morocco international was seen twisting in agony after sustaining the injury, before members of the medical staff came on to provide treatment.

Following the match, Siabanis used the story feature on his Instagram account to send an apology and a message of support to El Kaabi. His words were reported by Moroccan website Elbotola.

“I’m very sorry for what happened today, Ayoub. I had no intention of hurting you, and it was extremely painful to see you suffering like that. My thoughts are with you. I wish you strength, a full recovery and a return to the pitch as soon as possible, when you are ready,” Siabanis wrote.

The collision occurred during the third round of the Greek Super League, with El Kaabi forced to leave the incident in the care of the medical team.

Siabanis stressed that the contact had not been deliberate and expressed his regret at seeing the striker in distress. His message focused on El Kaabi’s recovery and made clear that he hoped the forward would return to football only when he was ready.

The injury brought a dramatic moment to Saturday’s fixture, with the Morocco striker unable to continue after the collision. The medical staff attended to him on the pitch after he was left in significant pain.

Siabanis’s public message came after the final whistle, as the Volos goalkeeper addressed El Kaabi directly rather than allowing the incident to pass without comment. He offered an apology for the challenge, wished the forward strength during his recovery and hoped to see him back on the pitch at the earliest appropriate opportunity.
