Gabon star Aubameyang continues impressive run with fourth consecutive goal in Spanish top-flight

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is turning his return to Spanish football into one of the biggest stories of the opening weeks of the La Liga season after producing another outstanding performance for Deportivo de La Coruña.

The 37-year-old Gabonese striker has scored in each of his first four La Liga appearances since returning to Spain, taking his league tally to four goals in four matches.

Aubameyang produced his most impressive performance of the campaign yet on Saturday as Deportivo secured a thrilling 3-2 away victory over Villarreal.

The veteran forward was directly involved in all three of Deportivo’s goals, providing two assists before scoring the decisive winner himself in the 88th minute.

With the match seemingly heading towards a draw, Aubameyang capitalised on a defensive mistake before driving forward and calmly finishing to complete a remarkable individual display and hand Deportivo all three points.

His performance took his total La Liga goal contributions to six, with four goals and two assists from his opening four league matches.

That tally places Aubameyang among the most productive attackers in Europe at the start of the new campaign, with no player in Europe’s top five leagues having registered more goal contributions at this stage.

The consistency of his goalscoring has also been remarkable.

Aubameyang opened his La Liga account against Elche before finding the net against Malaga and Valencia, and he continued his scoring streak against Villarreal.

His immediate impact has been particularly important for Deportivo, who returned to the Spanish top flight this season and will be hoping to establish themselves in the division.

The club made a relatively modest investment to secure Aubameyang’s services, signing the experienced forward from Marseille in July for around €1.5 million.

Despite being 37, Aubameyang has quickly demonstrated that he still possesses the pace, movement and finishing ability to trouble defenders at the highest level.

His return to Spain also represents another chapter in a career that has seen him play for several major European clubs, including Barcelona, Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan.

The Gabonese international previously enjoyed a successful spell in La Liga with Barcelona, and his latest run suggests he remains comfortable operating in Spanish football.

Deportivo will now hope Aubameyang can maintain his remarkable scoring form as the season progresses.

With four goals and two assists already to his name, the veteran striker has made an immediate statement since returning to Spain and is rapidly becoming one of the standout players of the early La Liga campaign.

Aubameyang’s contract with Deportivo runs until the summer of 2028, giving the club plenty of time to benefit from his experience and goalscoring quality.

For now, however, the focus is on his extraordinary start: four La Liga matches, four goals and six goal contributions.
