Mostafa Shobeir says Al Ahly exit now ‘very difficult’ after 2029 renewal

Mostafa Shobeir says it will now be “very difficult” for him to leave Al Ahly after extending his contract with the Egyptian club until 2029.

The goalkeeper said his renewal was completed on Al Ahly’s terms, with no release clause or additional provisions included in the agreement.

Speaking to Al Ahly’s official website, Shobeir said: “No player can impose his will on Al Ahly, and the negotiations were easy and comfortable because, in the end, I was going to renew my contract.”

Al Ahly confirmed that Shobeir had signed a new deal which will keep him at the club through 2029. The announcement ended discussions over his future and secured the goalkeeper’s continued association with the club.

Shobeir said he accepted Al Ahly’s position throughout the talks and did not seek to include a clause that could have made a departure easier.

“I respect Al Ahly’s point of view and, in the end, I renewed my contract under the club’s conditions, without a release clause or any other provisions,” he added.

The 25-year-old also made clear that leaving Al Ahly is not currently a likely prospect following the renewal.

“My chance of leaving Al Ahly is very difficult, and the whole team’s focus is on returning to the podium to make up for what happened last season,” Shobeir said.

His comments link the contract extension to Al Ahly’s wider desire to respond on the pitch after what he described as a disappointing previous campaign. The goalkeeper said the squad’s priority was to return to winning trophies, placing the emphasis on the team’s sporting objectives rather than on individual moves.

Shobeir also rejected the suggestion that the renewal negotiations had taken a long time. He said discussions began before the team’s preparation camp, before continuing after the squad returned.

“The negotiations to renew my contract did not take much time, as some people think, because we met for the first time before the preparation camp, then again after returning, and in the end the renewal was completed at the right time,” he said.

The goalkeeper therefore remains tied to Al Ahly until 2029 under an agreement that contains no release clause or other additional terms. For Shobeir, the process concluded with a new contract and a clear focus on helping the team return to the trophy podium after last season.
