Olympiacos have sent a heartfelt message to Ayoub El Kaabi after the Morocco striker suffered what appeared to be a serious foot injury during their Greek league match against Volos.
El Kaabi was forced off in the third minute of first-half stoppage time after being injured in the third-round fixture. Images from the match appeared to show the 33-year-old had suffered a fracture, although Olympiacos have not yet issued official confirmation providing full details of the injury.
The club responded with a message of support for their forward, who has been an important part of the squad during the current campaign.
“At this difficult moment, the entire Olympiacos family stands beside you with all our hearts.
“You have inspired us many times with your strength, passion and high spirits, and now it is our turn to return all that strength to you.
“We will be with you every step of the way on your road back until we see you again. Stay strong so that you can return to the place where you have always belonged.
“We wish you a speedy recovery.”
The injury occurred during the meeting with Volos in the third round of the Greek league. El Kaabi was substituted before half-time and was unable to continue after the incident.
No formal medical update has been announced by Olympiacos at this stage, meaning the extent of the problem and the length of El Kaabi’s expected absence remain unclear.
The Moroccan international has played five matches for the club this season. He has scored one goal and provided one assist during that period.
Olympiacos’ message highlighted the close bond between the club and the striker as he begins the process of recovering from the injury. The club also referred to the strength, passion and spirit that El Kaabi has shown on numerous occasions, while promising to support him throughout his return.
The forward will now await further assessment before a definitive diagnosis is made public. Until then, the images from the match remain the only indication of the injury, with Olympiacos yet to confirm whether El Kaabi has suffered a foot fracture.
The statement concluded with the club wishing their player a speedy recovery and expressing its hope that he will return to the team and to the place he has occupied at Olympiacos.
