Borussia Dortmund rally from two goals down to edge past Hoffenheim

Borussia Dortmund came from two goals behind to beat Hoffenheim 3-2 in a dramatic Bundesliga encounter at Sinsheim Stadium.

Hoffenheim appeared to be in control after taking a two-goal lead, but Dortmund produced a strong second-half response to secure all three points on matchday two.

The result gives Borussia Dortmund six points from their opening two league games and leaves them second in the table. Hoffenheim remain without a point and are 16th.

Hoffenheim took the lead shortly before half-time when Leon Avdullahu found the net in the 45th minute. The midfielder created space outside the penalty area before unleashing a powerful shot beyond the Dortmund goalkeeper.

The hosts doubled their advantage nine minutes into the second half. Tim Lemperle capitalised on an error in the Borussia Dortmund defence and struck a fierce effort into the net to make it 2-0.

Dortmund began their fightback in the 61st minute. Waldemar Anton supplied the pass for Serhou Guirassy, who finished from inside the area to reduce the deficit and give his side renewed momentum.

Guirassy then turned provider five minutes later as Dortmund completed their comeback to level the score. His well-weighted pass found Fabio Silva, who made no mistake with his finish to bring the visitors back to 2-2.

The winning goal arrived in the 86th minute and came through an unfortunate own goal. Konstantinos Karetsas delivered a cross into the area, and Alban Hajdari inadvertently directed the ball into his own net.

That completed a remarkable turnaround for Borussia Dortmund, who had trailed 2-0 before scoring three times to claim a 3-2 victory.

The win keeps Dortmund near the top of the Bundesliga after two matches, while Hoffenheim will have to wait for their first points of the campaign.

Borussia Dortmund’s next fixture is away to Paderborn on Saturday in the third round of the Bundesliga. Hoffenheim will also be in action that day, when they face Stuttgart.
