Mustafa Mohamed makes Konyaspor debut as Erzurumspor extend their winless start

Erzurumspor condemned Konyaspor to a fourth consecutive defeat in the Turkish league as Egypt international Mustafa Mohamed made his first appearance for the club.

Konyaspor were beaten 1-0 in a match decided by Eren Tozlu’s 17th-minute goal. Mohamed, who joined Konyaspor from French club Nantes during the summer transfer window, came on as a half-time substitute.

The result leaves Konyaspor without a point or a win from their opening four matches of the league campaign. Their difficult start has now included four successive defeats, with the latest loss coming against an Erzurumspor side who recorded their first victory of the season.

Mohamed’s appearance was his first since completing his move to Konyaspor. The forward began the match on the bench before being introduced at the interval as his new side attempted to recover from Tozlu’s early strike.

Erzurumspor took the lead in the 17th minute, when Tozlu scored the only goal of the game. Despite Konyaspor’s efforts after the break, the home side were unable to find an equaliser and suffered another narrow defeat.

Konyaspor opened their campaign with a 1-0 loss to Rizespor. They were then beaten 4-2 by Fenerbahce before losing 2-1 to Kocaelispor. The defeat by Erzurumspor completed a run of four losses from four matches.

That sequence has left Konyaspor at the bottom of the Turkish league table with no points.

Erzurumspor, meanwhile, moved on to four points and climbed to 14th place. Their victory was their first of the campaign after defeats by Amed and Galatasaray in their opening two matches, followed by a 1-1 draw with Genclerbirligi.

The win against Konyaspor therefore ended Erzurumspor’s own wait for a victory and gave them a first success after three matches without one.

For Konyaspor, the immediate challenge is to halt a poor run which has left them isolated at the foot of the standings. Mohamed’s introduction was one of the few notable developments for the club in a match in which Tozlu’s early goal proved decisive.

The Egyptian international will now look to build on his first appearance for Konyaspor as the club seek their first points of the Turkish league season.
