Egyptian Clubs Association announces sanctions after third round of Premier League

The Egyptian Clubs Association has announced disciplinary measures from the third round of the league, including fines for Smouha manager Ahmed Abdel Aziz Mohamed and Tala’ea El Gaish player Ahmed Waheed.

The third round concluded with Al Ahly’s meeting with Smouha on Thursday. Al Ahly won the match 1-0, with defender Yasser Ibrahim scoring the only goal in the 87th minute.

Smouha manager Ahmed Abdel Aziz Mohamed was given an official warning and fined 20,000 Egyptian pounds after failing to attend the post-match press conference following his side’s game against Al Ahly.

The sanction was among the measures issued by the Egyptian Clubs Association after the completion of the round. The association did not announce any further punishment relating to the Al Ahly-S(mouha) fixture in the details released.

Ahmed Waheed, who plays for Tala’ea El Gaish, has been suspended for one match and fined 2,500 Egyptian pounds. His punishment follows his dismissal during the match against ZED after receiving two yellow cards in the same game.

Tala’ea El Gaish suffered their first defeat of the season in the league as they lost 1-0 to ZED. The result came alongside the disciplinary action against Waheed, whose red card was issued after the two cautions.

Al Ahly and Pyramids FC share the lead in the league table with nine points each. Both teams have won all three of their matches so far, giving them identical records at the top of the standings after the third round.

Zamalek, the defending champions from last season, are third on seven points. Their total has come from two victories and one draw.

The latest sanctions therefore cover both conduct away from the pitch and an incident during a match. Smouha’s manager has been penalised for missing the required press conference, while Tala’ea El Gaish’s Waheed will miss one fixture because of his dismissal against ZED.

The round ended with Al Ahly maintaining a perfect start, while Pyramids FC remained level with them at the summit. Zamalek are positioned immediately behind the leading pair, with the reigning champions separated from the top two by two points.
