Al Ahli’s attacking display sends Riyadh crashing to heavy Roshn Saudi League defeat

Al Ahli produced a dominant performance to beat Al Riyadh 5-0 on Friday and climb to fourth in the Roshn Saudi League.

The three points moved Al Ahli on to nine points after five matches, while Al Riyadh remained 12th in the table with four points.

Ivan Toney opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 16th minute, giving Al Ahli an early lead and setting the tone for an emphatic victory. The England striker later converted another penalty to complete his double and take his league tally to six goals in five matches.

Al Ahli controlled the first half and added two more goals before the interval. Eduard Spertsyan doubled their advantage in the 43rd minute, before Francisco Trincao struck in stoppage time to send his side into the break with a 3-0 lead.

Spertsyan’s goal was Al Ahli’s second of the match, with the midfielder finishing a move that left his side firmly in command. Trincao then added the third before half-time, leaving Al Riyadh with a difficult task after conceding three times in the opening period.

Toney scored his second goal of the evening and Al Ahli’s fourth in the 61st minute, again finding the net from the penalty spot. His decisive contribution further strengthened his position at the top of the league scoring charts, having now scored six times across five appearances.

The home side continued to press for more and completed the scoring three minutes before the end of normal time. Naif Masoud made it 5-0 in the 87th minute, with Firas Al-Buraikan providing the assist.

The result represents Al Ahli’s biggest win of the season so far and gives them a significant boost as they move into the fourth position in the league standings. Their five goals came from four different scorers, with Toney’s two penalties complemented by goals from Spertsyan, Trincao and Masoud.

For Al Riyadh, the defeat leaves them with four points and a goal-heavy loss to recover from as they remain in 12th place. Al Ahli’s victory, meanwhile, extends their league total to nine points after the fifth round of the Roshn Saudi League.

Toney’s two-goal display was the central feature of the match, but Al Ahli’s performance was also marked by the speed and variety of their attack. They established a decisive advantage before half-time, added two further goals after the break and secured a comprehensive 5-0 result.
