Michael Carrick hails Patrick Dorgu return as new signing

Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has hailed Patrick Dorgu’s return from injury as almost like a new signing, with the Denmark international now in contention to help address the club’s left-back shortage.

The 21-year-old winger has been sidelined for an extended period but is now back in training and available for selection.

Carrick confirmed Dorgu’s versatility when asked whether he could feature at left-back, a position United have struggled to fill consistently. “He can certainly play there,” Carrick said. “He has done, without doubt. I’m not sitting here saying he can’t do that. It’s just the way we’ve been since I’ve been here.”

The coach emphasised how valuable Dorgu’s return is after his long layoff. “He actually has been injured, unfortunately, for some time. So, for me, he’s almost like a new player to have, and it’s almost like a new signing in some ways because he’s added so much to the group,” Carrick explained.

Dorgu has also shown his attacking threat on the right flank for Denmark, scoring an impressive goal in a forward role during the summer. His ability to operate in multiple positions gives Carrick added flexibility as he looks to stabilise United’s defensive options.
