Al Ahly offer Yasser Ibrahim two-year contract extension

Al Ahly have opened negotiations with defender Yasser Ibrahim over a new two-year contract, with the Egyptian club offering him first-tier financial terms worth up to £25m Egyptian pounds per season.

Ibrahim’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season. Al Ahly have now submitted their proposal and are waiting for the 32-year-old’s response.

Under the terms of the offer, Ibrahim would receive an annual salary of 25m Egyptian pounds, with a further 10m available in bonuses linked to the club winning titles.

The proposal would also give the defender 70% of any advertising revenue generated through his personal commercial agreements. Al Ahly would retain the remaining 30%, provided any advertising deal does not conflict with the club’s existing sponsors.

There will be no additional exception or specific financial compensation for Ibrahim after he turned down overseas offers, according to FilGoal.com.

Al Ahly’s approach follows the recent contract renewals agreed with Imam Ashour, Marwan Attia and Mostafa Shobeir. The club rejected an offer from Saudi Arabian side Al Shabab to sign Ibrahim at the start of the current season.

Ibrahim made his first appearance of the campaign against Smouha after missing Al Ahly’s opening two league matches. He scored a late winner to secure a 1-0 victory and was named player of the match.

The result moved Al Ahly on to nine points, level with Pyramids FC at the top of the league table. Smouha remained 17th with one point from a draw and a defeat.

Al Ahly also ended a difficult run from the previous two seasons, during which they had failed to win any of their first three league games.

They began this campaign with a 3-2 victory over Eastern Company ENPPI, before beating ZED 2-0. Ibrahim then struck against Smouha to complete a perfect start after three rounds.

His decisive goal came in the closing stages, when he finished an attacking move to give Al Ahly victory in a match in which they had been unable to find a breakthrough for long periods.

The defender’s return to the starting line-up therefore had an immediate impact, both in terms of the result and his individual recognition. Al Ahly are now waiting to see whether the offer will persuade Ibrahim to remain with the club beyond the end of his existing contract.

A successful agreement would secure the future of a player who has continued to play an important role in the squad, while also keeping him at Al Ahly after the club previously chose not to accept Al Shabab’s offer.
