Zamalek to wear black against AS Port in African Champions League opener

Zamalek will wear their black away kit when they face Djibouti champions AS Port in the first preliminary round of the African Champions League on Friday.

The Cairo-based club will play in a black shirt and black shorts at Cairo International Stadium, while their goalkeeper will wear yellow. AS Port will line up in red shirts and red shorts, with their goalkeeper dressed in white.

The kit details were confirmed at the pre-match technical meeting ahead of the opening-leg encounter, which is scheduled to begin at 20:00 local time on Friday at Cairo International Stadium.

Zamalek are entering the competition at the preliminary stage and will face AS Port twice in the space of eight days. The return fixture is due to take place in Cairo on 12 September, according to the club’s September schedule.

The Egyptian side have four matches listed during September, with their fixtures split between the Egyptian Premier League and the African Champions League.

Their month begins with the first meeting against AS Port in the continental competition on 4 September. The fixture is listed as AS Port v Zamalek, with kick-off set for 20:00 at Cairo International Stadium.

Zamalek then return to domestic action on 8 September, when they host Abu Qir Fertilizers in the fourth round of the Egyptian Premier League. That match is also scheduled for 20:00 at Cairo International Stadium.

The second leg against AS Port follows on 12 September, with Zamalek hosting the Djibouti champions at Cairo International Stadium in another 20:00 kick-off.

Zamalek’s fourth fixture of the month is away to Ghazl El Mahalla on 16 September. The Egyptian Premier League match, part of the fifth round, is scheduled to start at 20:00 at Ghazl El Mahalla Stadium.

The African Champions League tie represents the first of Zamalek’s two meetings with AS Port in September. Their immediate focus will be Friday’s first leg, where the Egyptian club will seek a strong result before the return match one week later.

The team colours for both sides were agreed before the match, with Zamalek opting for their alternative black strip and AS Port using their red home colours. The goalkeepers will wear contrasting yellow and white kits respectively.
