Gael Kakudji returns to Olympic Charleroi after Schaerbeek exit

DR Congo-Belgium defender Gael Kakudji has joined Olympic Charleroi from Schaerbeek on a free transfer, returning to the Belgian club after four years away.

The 27-year-old centre-back has signed a contract with Olympic Charleroi that runs until 30 June 2027. Kakudji, who is 1.92m tall and right-footed, strengthens the club’s defensive options following his move from Schaerbeek, where he spent the 2025-26 season.

Kakudji began his senior career with RFC Seraing after leaving Antwerp Under-21s in July 2020. He then spent time on loan at RFC Lutych before returning to RFC Seraing’s Under-21 side.

In August 2021, he joined Olympic Charleroi on loan from RFC Seraing Under-21s. That spell ended the following June, when he returned to Seraing before moving permanently to Eendracht Aalst in July 2022.

Kakudji subsequently moved to RAEC Mons in July 2023 and Schaerbeek two years later, both on free transfers. His latest switch brings him back to Olympic Charleroi, who compete in Belgium’s 1ste Nationale FFA.

Born in Liege, Kakudji holds DR Congo and Belgian nationality. His return gives Olympic Charleroi a defender with experience across several levels of Belgian football and restores a connection that began with his initial loan spell at the club in the 2021-22 season.

The move was completed on 2 September 2026, with Schaerbeek the previous club listed in Kakudji’s transfer history. No transfer fee is attached to the deal.

Kakudji is now under contract at Olympic Charleroi until 30 June 2027.
