Dortmund reject Newcastle United swap deal for Felix Nmecha

Borussia Dortmund reportedly turned down a late approach from Newcastle United for midfielder Felix Nmecha before the summer transfer window closed.

The Premier League club explored a deal for the 25-year-old, but Dortmund had no interest in losing a player viewed as central to their plans.

According to Sport Bild, Newcastle’s proposal was far from conventional. Rather than submitting a straightforward cash bid, the Magpies suggested using the potential sale of Germany international striker Nick Woltemade as part of the arrangement for Nmecha. The unusual structure failed to persuade Dortmund’s decision-makers, who consider the midfielder one of the squad’s most important pillars.

Nmecha remains a key component of Dortmund’s midfield, and the club’s response underlined its determination to retain influential players despite interest from England. His importance became even clearer amid recent squad changes and the need to maintain stability during a demanding campaign.

Meanwhile, Dortmund reacted to Giannis Konstantelias’ serious injury by bringing in 19-year-old Ethan Nwaneri on loan. Woltemade, however, took a different path, joining Juventus as a guest player in an effort to rebuild momentum in his career.

The rejected Newcastle proposal ultimately ensured that Nmecha stayed in Dortmund for the season.
