Martinelli transfer confirmed by Inzaghi as Al Hilal target silverware on several fronts

Al Hilal manager Simone Inzaghi has confirmed that Gabriel Martinelli will join the Saudi Pro League leaders, saying the Brazil forward is expected to feature in the club’s upcoming matches before an official announcement is made.

Martinelli arrived in Riyadh on Tuesday evening, the same day Al Hilal beat Al Ahli 3-0 in their postponed third-round fixture. The reported value of the transfer is about 65m euros, while Al Hilal are expected to announce the deal within the next few hours.

The Saudi transfer window remains open until 12 October, unlike the major European leagues, where the window closed at the end of Tuesday.

Speaking at his post-match news conference, as reported by Asharq Al-Awsat, Inzaghi praised his side’s display against Al Ahli.

“Of course, I am very happy with the level and technical performance the team showed, and I congratulate all the players, one by one, for this effort,” he said.

The Italian also provided an update on injuries within the squad. He said captain Salem Al-Dawsari would need more time before returning to action, while the club would assess Ali Lajami and Theo Hernandez after the match.

“We will also assess Ali Lajami’s injury carefully after the match, while Theo Hernandez felt some physical discomfort and we will evaluate his medical condition as well,” Inzaghi added.

Asked when Martinelli would make his Al Hilal debut, Inzaghi said: “As for Martinelli, we will see him participating in the upcoming matches.”

That statement effectively confirmed that the transfer has been completed, although Al Hilal have yet to issue their formal confirmation. The Brazilian’s arrival is set to increase competition for places in an attacking squad already containing players such as Crysencio Summerville and Sultan Mandash.

Inzaghi also moved to reassure Mandash that he would continue to have opportunities despite the imminent arrival of Martinelli. Al Hilal face a demanding schedule in both the King’s Cup and the AFC Champions League, as well as their domestic league commitments.

“Of course, Mandash is producing wonderful and excellent performances. We have many commitments and matches ahead in the King’s Cup and the AFC Champions League, and he will have enough opportunities to play and prove himself,” Inzaghi said.

The manager praised the contributions of Crysencio Summerville and Mandash in the victory over Al Ahli, but insisted the result was the product of a collective effort.

“Summerville and Mandash did a wonderful and outstanding job on the pitch, but I would like to thank and appreciate the whole team, because the victory and the points belong to the entire group,” he said.

Al Hilal led 3-0 but Inzaghi acknowledged that the team’s physical and technical level dropped after going ahead. He remained confident that his players could improve as the season progresses.

“Our level will improve and develop significantly in the upcoming matches, and we are very happy with the excellent atmosphere and the great interaction with our fans today,” he said.

Inzaghi concluded by thanking the supporters who attended the match and promised continued commitment from the coaching staff.

“I thank the fans for their attendance and support today. The only thing I clearly promise you, on my behalf and on behalf of all the members of the coaching staff, is dedication and hard work,” he said.

The win moved Al Hilal to the top of the Saudi Pro League with 12 points after four matches. They lead rivals Al Nassr on goal difference, with both clubs having the same points total.
