Qatar 2026: Cameroon’s 60-player U17 camp reaches full strength

Cameroon’s Under-17 preparations for the 2026 World Cup in Qatar have gathered pace, with the full squad of 60 players now assembled at the FECAFOOT Technical Centre in Odza and two further evaluation matches scheduled for Tuesday.

The players called up by coach Libiih Thomas began their seventh day of training on Monday, 31 August 2026, as the national team continued its preparations for the tournament. The camp is intended to help the technical staff assess the group and build a squad capable of representing Cameroon at the World Cup.

The latest phase of the programme follows two evaluation victories recorded by the Lions U17. The matches were played on Friday, 28 August, against an academy from Ebolowa, with the Cameroon youngsters securing a convincing result.

Those performances have provided encouragement for the coaching staff and helped reinforce the positive mood within the camp. The results also offered an early indication of the players’ commitment as they compete for places in the final World Cup selection.

The assessment process will continue with two more matches on Tuesday, 1 September. The first is scheduled to take place from 10:00 to 12:00, with the second due to run from 12:00 to 14:00.

The two fixtures will give Libiih Thomas and his staff another opportunity to examine the players in competitive situations while the squad works through the demands of the training camp. With all 60 invited players now present, the technical team can assess the group as a whole during the next stage of the preparations.

The staff have expressed satisfaction with the work completed so far. The sessions have combined tactical discipline with a strong level of commitment from the players, who are determined to represent Cameroon with distinction in Qatar.
