Venezia land Ghana centre-back Rufai Mohammed in Serie A loan move

Ghanaian centre-back Rufai Mohammed has joined Serie A club Venezia from Swedish side Elfsborg on loan, completing a move that takes the 20-year-old defender to Italy.

Mohammed’s loan began on 1 September 2026 and runs until 30 June 2027, when he is due to return to Elfsborg. The 1.98m defender has a contract with Venezia extending through the same date.

He arrives in Italy after starting the 2026-27 campaign with Elfsborg, making one appearance in the Svenska Cupen. Mohammed played the full 90 minutes in that match and scored once, while also recording a starting rate and playing-time percentage of 100%.

The move gives Venezia a Ghanaian defender who has spent the early part of his career moving between clubs in Sweden. Mohammed joined Elfsborg from Ghanaian club Inter Allies in March 2024 before spending part of the following campaign on loan at Varnamo.

His spell at Varnamo ended in November 2025, when he returned to Elfsborg. The Swedish club then retained him until sending him to Venezia for the 2026-27 season.

Mohammed began his senior club career with Inter Allies after coming through Allies Youth. His transfer to Elfsborg marked his first move abroad, followed by the temporary switch to Varnamo and now his arrival in Italy.

The defender’s move to Venezia represents a change of league and country as he steps from Sweden’s Allsvenskan into Serie A. He joins at the age of 20 and brings experience of senior football in both Ghana and Sweden despite his relative youth.

Mohammed’s current market value is €350,000, and his Venezia agreement is scheduled to end on 30 June 2027. The completed deal is a loan transfer from Elfsborg to Venezia.
