Ethan Nwaneri makes Dortmund move as Arsenal loan out England midfielder

England and Nigeria midfielder Ethan Nwaneri has joined Dortmund from Arsenal on loan, beginning a new chapter in the 19-year-old’s career in the Bundesliga. The attacking midfielder’s deal runs until 30 June 2027.

Nwaneri returns to Arsenal’s senior squad structure after spending the second half of the 2025-26 season on loan at Marseille. He moved to the French club on 23 January 2026, with Marseille paying a €1.5m loan fee, before returning to Arsenal at the end of the campaign.

The London-born player made his way through Arsenal’s youth system, progressing from Arsenal Youth to the club’s under-18 side and then Arsenal Under-21s. He moved into Arsenal’s senior squad setup in July 2024 and was part of the side that won the English title in the 2025-26 season.

Nwaneri also had success with England Under-21s, helping them become European Under-21 champions in 2025. At youth level, he finished as the FA Youth Cup’s leading scorer in the 2023-24 campaign after scoring six goals.

A left-footed attacking midfielder, Nwaneri is listed at 1.76m and has represented both England and Nigeria internationally. His move to Dortmund takes him from the Premier League to the Bundesliga, with the German club becoming his third senior destination after Arsenal and Marseille.

Nwaneri’s Arsenal contract remains linked to the loan arrangement, with the transfer record showing a return to the London club at the end of the Dortmund spell. His current market value is €35m, while his highest recorded valuation has been €55m.

The transfer gives Dortmund the services of a teenage midfielder who has already collected domestic and international honours, while Arsenal retain his registration beyond the end of the loan. Nwaneri completed his move to Dortmund on 1 September 2026.
