Nathan Asiimwe joins Salford from Charlton on loan

Ugandan-English right-back Nathan Asiimwe has joined Salford from Charlton on loan until 31 May 2027, completing a move that takes the 21-year-old to the League Two club.

Asiimwe, who is also eligible to represent England, moves after spending the 2025-26 season on loan at AFC Wimbledon. He returned to Charlton at the end of that campaign before switching to Salford on 1 September 2026.

The defender began his senior career with Charlton after progressing from the club’s under-18 side. He made his first move away from The Valley in September 2024, joining Hartlepool on loan, before returning to Charlton in October of that year.

Asiimwe subsequently spent the second half of the 2024-25 season with Walsall, where he remained until the end of the campaign. He then moved to AFC Wimbledon for the whole of the following season, gaining further experience away from Charlton before taking up the latest loan opportunity.

The 1.82m defender is a right-footed specialist at right-back. His early-season record before joining Salford included one Championship appearance and one EFL Cup appearance, with the latter coming as a 90-minute outing. He did not score in either competition.

Asiimwe’s move to Salford is his fourth spell away from Charlton, following loans at Hartlepool, Walsall and AFC Wimbledon. The transfer also represents a move from Championship club Charlton to Salford’s League Two campaign.

He joins Salford with a market value of €275,000 and will remain with the club for the duration of the 2026-27 season, with the agreement scheduled to end on 31 May 2027.

The transfer continues a pattern of temporary moves that has defined Asiimwe’s senior career since he stepped up from Charlton’s academy. His spell at Salford is now the latest chapter in that progression, with the right-back formally registered as a Salford player for the 2026-27 campaign.
