Trabzonspor announce Fatih Tekke departure after latest league setback

Trabzonspor have announced that Fatih Tekke has left his position as head coach by mutual consent, following a difficult run of results that culminated in Monday’s 2-1 defeat by Amedspor in the Turkish league.

The Turkish club confirmed the decision on Tuesday after vice-president Serkan Kılıc held talks with Tekke to assess the team’s current position and discuss its future. Those discussions ended with both parties agreeing to bring their working relationship to a close in what Trabzonspor said was the best course for the club’s interests and long-term objectives.

Trabzonspor said Tekke had made a significant contribution during his spell in charge, which lasted about 18 months. The club credited him with helping to develop players who joined the squad, while also delivering sporting and financial benefits.

The 48-year-old was also praised for guiding Trabzonspor to victory in the Turkish Cup. The club added that both sides had reached the shared conclusion that a new direction was needed.

According to Trabzonspor’s statement, Tekke made clear that he did not want his continued presence to cause any harm to the club and that the interests of Trabzonspor had to come before any individual considerations.

The club thanked its former manager for his work, dedication, achievements and the value he had brought during his time in charge. It also wished him success in the next stage of his career.

Tekke’s departure comes after a particularly challenging week for Trabzonspor. Before Monday’s domestic defeat, the team had suffered a heavy 4-0 loss to Ferencvarosi TC in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League play-off round, a result that ended its involvement in the competition.

Tekke submitted his resignation after the European defeat, but Trabzonspor’s board initially rejected it and publicly backed the manager to remain in his role. The situation changed after the loss to Amedspor, with the club and coach subsequently agreeing to terminate his appointment.

Tekke took charge of Trabzonspor in March 2025. During the previous season, he led the team to third place in the Turkish league, finishing with 69 points, while also securing the Turkish Cup.

Trabzonspor, who have Egyptian star Mohamed Salah in their squad, have now begun the process of moving forward without the manager who delivered their latest major success. The club did not announce a replacement in its statement confirming the end of Tekke’s tenure.
