Dortmund sign Ethan Nwaneri on loan

Borussia Dortmund have moved quickly to replace the injured Giannis Konstantelias, securing Ethan Nwaneri on loan from Arsenal.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder arrives at Signal Iduna Park with plenty of promise and no purchase option attached to the deal.

Dortmund are also covering his full wage, and the overall package is reported to be worth around five million euros. Club sporting director Lars Ricken said the move gives the squad a “very talented and technically extremely skilled midfielder” at a time when the team needed a short-term solution.

Nwaneri came through Arsenal’s academy and has already played 51 times for the senior side, scoring 10 goals and adding two assists. He also spent the second half of last season on loan at Marseille, where the spell did not fully click, but the English U21 international now gets another chance to reset in Germany.

Dortmund had looked at other names too, including Jadon Sancho and Marcel Regula, but ultimately chose the Arsenal youngster. For Nwaneri, this is a fresh opportunity to prove himself in a big league and help cover a major midfield absence.
